The 2026 Emancipation Jubilee marks the 6th year of this revived tradition.
The Black Council of Windsor-Essex is proud to announce the return of the Emancipation Jubilee, a powerful four-day collaborative community celebration commemorating the Slavery Abolition Act of August 1st, 1834, which ended slavery throughout the British Colonies in the Caribbean, South America, and Canada.

“We are excited to continue this important legacy. The Emancipation Jubilee is not just a remembrance of the past, but a celebration of the thriving, diverse Black community in Windsor today.”
Leslie McCurdy
Chair of the Black Council’s Emancipation Jubilee Planning Committee.
